Detect Map View

Detect Map View is the foundational viewing software providing a management interface to establish how the system will operate. Detect Map View is a map-based application providing situational awareness using multiple mapping options (Google Maps, vector-based maps, and Esri map subscriptions). Detect Map View provides spatial information such as camera position, camera range, camera coverage area, and GeoSpace locations. Clicking on an individual camera icon permits a user to view camera video and access preset views.

When logging into Detect VMS, three windows will open: the Detect Map View window, a Detect Display View window, and an Alarms window.

The Detect Map View interface

When you open Detect VMS, the interface opens directly into the Detect Map View window. If you are familiar with Google Maps, you will already be comfortable with the navigation tools.

The Detect Map View toolbar is located at the top of the window. The name above the toolbar indicates which user is currently logged into the Detect Viewing Station.

Note: Hover over any of the buttons for a tool-tip reminder of what they do.

1  A green icon on the far left indicates that the viewing station is actively connected to the Detect Appliance.

2  The Redraw button refreshes the map display if the connection to the Google Map server times out.

Note: If a connection problem is persistent, report it to your administrator for resolution.

3  The Locations drop-down provides shortcuts to specific map locations by using either a preset name, or by typing a street address into the blank field.  See Preset locations for more information.

4 The Preset Locations button is used to Add or Edit locations in the Locations drop-down menu.

5  Set User Event   If user privileges allow, the Set User Event button sets up the mouse to simulate an alarm trigger.

6  The Clear Event button clears an alarm event.

7  The Print Map button captures the image on the screen and brings up a print dialog box for printing to a file or a device.

8  The View Windows drop-down menu allows from one to four Display View windows to be selected. Detect Display View windows are used for viewing and accessing live and recorded video, and incidents. If a Display View window is already being used, a red button will appear to the left on the drop down menu. To clear the Display View window, click the red button.

9  The Camera Coverage button displays the camera coverage areas of all cameras currently viewable on the map. When active, the button is green and the camera coverages are visible as green shapes on the map. See Camera options for more information.

10  The GeoSpace button displays the GeoSpaces currently viewable on the map. When active, the button is dark blue, and the GeoSpaces are visible as dark blue polygons on the map. See GeoSpaces for more information.

11  The Detect NVR button allows an administrator to access the Network Video Recorder, and view statistics such as bandwidth consumption and recording interruptions. See Configuring the NVR for more information.

12  ALPR  Launches the Automated License Plate Recognition window.

Unsupported Browser Alert

You may see a message placed by Google Maps across the top of the Detect Map View screen that states “You are using a browser that is not supported by the Google Maps JavaScript API. Consider changing your browser.

The VMS uses a WebBrowser class (or object) to show the map, which utilizes an older version of Microsoft Internet Explorer. When Google Map Server sees the version of the browser, it places this note on the top of the map. This does not affect the functionality of the map or the software. If possible, ensure you are running the most up-to-date version of all software.
