Network Joystick controller

Detect VMS software supports the Samsung Network Controller SPC-2000, a USB joystick controller used with Samsung’s Net-i Viewer software to control Samsung PTZ network cameras. It features a 3D joystick with 3-axis twist zoom, a USB 2.0 and DirectX interface. Please refer to the SPC-2000 User Guide before installing and operating this product.

Installing the controller

To install the controller, follow these steps:

1 Turn on your computer, and then connect the controller to the USB port.

2 Your computer detects the controller automatically, A window appears informing you that a new device has been detected.

3 Once the controller is detected, its name displays under the Game Controllers list in Control Panel. To access the Game Controllers list, navigate to the Start menu on your computer > Search Programs and files > Type in Game Controllers > select USB game controllers.

4 From the Game Controller window, highlight Samsung Techwin SPC-2000, then click the Properties button.

5 A Window with two tabs will appear. The Test tab provides a verification of operation of the Joystick Axis control and buttons.

Press the Calibrate button to run the Device Calibration Wizard. Calibrate the axes following the instructions on the screen.

Note: When asked to move the Z-Axis all the way up and then down, rotate the joystick clockwise, then counterclockwise.

6 When calibration is complete, click OK.

7 Launch Detect VMS and login.

When the SPC-2000 is properly installed, the current status is displayed in the upper left corner of both the Map View and Display View windows.

The SPC-2000 has two modes of operation, Camera Mode and Mouse Mode. To switch modes, press the F9 and F10 keys simultaneously, then release them at the same time.

Joystick C: Camera Mode

Joystick M: Mouse Mode

The default mode for the joystick is Mouse Mode. This example uses a Detect Display View window.

Each camera has a unique 3-digit code that appears with the camera description. This number is assigned when the camera is added to the system by the administrator. In the example, the last four cameras have been assigned a 3-digit code.

Using the joystick to select cameras

The joystick can be used to select cameras for viewing.

1 Select the desired pane layout prior to selecting cameras for viewing. In our example, a 2 x 2 pane layout was selected.

2 To select cameras for viewing the joystick must be in the Camera mode. To toggle the mode of the joystick between Mouse Mode and Camera Mode, press the F9 and F10 buttons on your keyboard simultaneously, and then release them at the same time.

In this example, the joystick was put into Camera mode, and four cameras were selected for viewing.

Some notes about using the joystick:

When selecting cameras for viewing, inserting leading zeros is not required.

If a number is selected (for example, 8), the camera will automatically be selected after about two seconds of inactivity.

The joystick will revert to Mouse mode after approximately 8 seconds of no joystick activity.

In Mouse mode, the joystick operates much like a mouse (see Controlling a PTZ camera for more information). The joystick has a zoom control feature that operates by twisting the joystick control clockwise or counterclockwise. To use this feature, the camera must be selected and must support this capability.

Setting up a camera unique identifier for the joystick

A unique 3-digit ID can be assigned to a camera by the Administrator. This allows for the user to access that specific camera using the keypad on the joystick.

1 To access the Camera Parameters menu, navigate to the Detect Map View main toolbar > Administrator > Edit Camera Systems > Camera Parameters.

2 In the Camera Parameters menu, click Edit.

3 Enter a three digit ID for the camera, then click OK.

A message will appear if the number has already been assigned; otherwise, the camera will be updated with the desired number.

Note: Leading zeros do not need to be entered.
