Groups

Groups should be established based upon a “need to know, need to perform” criteria. Cameras should be added to the system prior to setting up groups. The criteria listed below should be carefully considered when forming groups. Individuals assigned to groups can be assigned additional privileges in the Users section.

Which cameras should a group of individuals have access to in order to view live, recorded, or incident video?

For live video viewing, which stream profile best fits the needs of the group? For instance, a group of viewers that are remote might be better suited to view the mobile video stream, while those that are part of the high speed network may view the quality stream.

Recorded video is recorded at the highest quality possible. That may be a consideration when setting up a remote group. Incident view might be better for remote users, since the video can be downloaded and viewed off line, which provides capabilities similar to recorded viewing, without the constraint of live streaming restrictions.

The System Settings windows pane for Groups contains four windows of information.

1  The Groups field lists groups and provides the ability to add a group, remove a group, and edit a group name.

2  The Permissions field lists categories of permissions that can be edited.

3  The Cameras field is an illustration of the camera structure, including sites and cameras. This is also a visual indication of what groups and users have specific capabilities enabled and denied.

4  The Capabilities field is where groups are globally assigned specific capabilities.
