Permissions

The Permissions field is where you select which camera permissions are to be edited. When a group and permission category—such as Live View permission, in our example—have been chosen, a structure will appear that contains a logical arrangement of cameras and sites.

Permissions are established at the site or camera level. Individual camera or site permissions can remain as the default setting, group setting, or user setting -- each subsequent group supersedes the previous one. Changing the site setting will cause all cameras assigned to that site to reflect the change in permissions.

Each site has icons depicting Default and Group settings. The camera structure icons in the Group and User settings indicate one of three states. The red color indicates denied access. The color green indicates permitted access. A yellow icon indicates inconsistencies in permissions further down in the camera structure. Access or Deny permissions can be selected for either a site or camera within a site.

In our example, the group DEMO USERS can view live cameras at the sites ‘Hallways’ and ‘Exterior’ as indicated by the green icons. They cannot view live cameras at site ‘Warehouse’ as indicated by the red icon.

Default settings

Every site and resource listed in each site has a default capability setting (permission) that applies across all groups. Select a group from the Groups field at the left, and a permissions group from the Permissions field in the center.

The default setting for any capability is to deny access, indicated by the color red. The color green indicates access is allowed. The default column is the left-most column after the site icon, and can be further identified by the solid line across the bottom of the icon.

Default settings can be changed by hovering over the icon and left-clicking the mouse to toggle between settings. Two boxes are located above the icon. When neither of the boxes is checked, the default setting is selected. The first click of the mouse will highlight the green allow box, and the second click will highlight the red deny box.

Changing the default setting also changes the default for other groups. To prevent accidental changes, the system will warn the user by asking “Are you sure?”
