Configuring camera coverage area

A Camera Coverage Area is predicated upon empirical information determined by viewing the actual area that a camera can display. Creating a Camera Coverage Area can be subjective based upon the size of an object in a field of view relative to the boundary that is considered viewable.

The initial step to setting up a camera coverage area is to first develop Intelligent Camera Views. The camera coverage area is a polygon created in such a way to include all Camera Intelligent Views.

From the Detect Map View main toolbar, select Administrator > Edit > Camera Systems.

The Camera Systems window will open. Select the Camera Coverage tab.

1 In the Cameras window, use the navigation tree to select the camera that will be assigned a Camera Coverage.

2 Select a point on the map that will mark an edge of the coverage and click the Add button. Select another point on the map and click the Add button once again. Continue this process until the camera coverage has been achieved.

3 In our example, coverage is set by three points, and covers a triangular area from the back of the building across the parking lot. Note the three points in the coverage polygon coincide with the three coordinates listed in the Camera Coverage field above.

4 To move a point on the coverage, select the point in the Camera Coverage window, then select the new point on the map. Click the Move button and the point will be moved.

Remember, just because you set a point doesn’t mean the camera can actually record that area. Always check the cameras specifications and physical area before you set a Camera Coverage.
